Spyware Removal |
|
As you are probably aware, there is no simple solution. There are many different types of spyware
and each has its own techniques and quirks relating to removal. Listed below are some standard steps
we follow to remove spyware. Please note that we take no responsibility if the steps or procedures
cause data loss or system failure. Use at your own risk! 1) Add/Remove Programs In the control panel you will have an icon labeled add/remove programs. In this tool you will find a list of all applications installed on your computer. A good first step is to remove any Tool Bars, Search Assistants, Bargain Hunters, Coupons, Web Optimizers, etc. If you are unsure if an application should be removed then either email us at spyware@simplifiedcomputer.com and ask or don’t remove it. Restart when this step is complete 2) Download a spyware removal tool - If you are running XP then the Microsoft Spyware Removal tool is probably most effective. - If you are running older operating systems then we recommend Ad-aware by Lavasoft. Both are free downloads - Follow the default installation instructions, update the software and remove anything that it finds. Restart when complete Note: Some spyware is user specific. If your system is setup with multiple users then you need to run the spyware removal tool for each user. 3) Hijack This Hopefully the first 2 steps have helped and you no longer have problems. Unfortunately this is not always the case. In this situation a more aggressive tool is required. The tool we have used with great success is Hijack This. Please be advised that Hijack This is a very powerful tool and can cause potential damage. We do not recommend running it unless you understand the consequences of using it incorrectly. - Download and run Hijack This - Save the log file and email it to spyware@simplifiedcomputer.com - We will get back to you regarding tings that should be removed. - Check the items we recommend and remove them. - Restart. - Run Hijack This again to confirm the removal was successful. If you are still having problems then we recommend that you either email or call us for suggestions. |
